American Icon. Beloved father. Acclaimed writer. Admiring son. Tim Russert, John Carroll Alum Class of ‘72, passed away Friday, June 13th of a heart attack.
As both moderator and managing editor for NBC’s “Meet The Press” Russert will be remembered as one of the most influential people in politics. Russert graced the streets of Cleveland earlier this year as a co-moderator in the democratic debate. It was a year earlier he made an appearance at a fundraiser for John Carroll ‘s scholarship initiative for low-income families.
WJCU holds a special place for Russert as he began his media career in the studio when the station was known as WUJC. It is an honor for all of us to know that Russert once began where we stand today.
Services will be held to the public, June 17thfrom 2 p.m. - 9 p.m. at St. Albans School
in Washington, D.C.
In the words of John Carroll University president, Rev. Robert L. Niehoff, S.J., “ The entire John Carroll University community is deeply saddened by the loss of this distinguished alumnus. Tim exemplified the Jesuit Catholic mission… Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
