Help WJCU Put an End to Cancer

88.7FM is once again teaming up with the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life event. Last year at John Carroll University’s first Relay, over $100,000 was raised, the most of any school its size nationwide. This year we hope to raise over $120,000 to assist the American Cancer Society with research, support, and preventative measures in fighting cancer.

WJCU is teaming up with J.U.S.T.I.C.E, a social justice group at John Carroll University. Together we have a Relay team of 15 members strong, who will be relaying this weekend from 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 26th to 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 27th. Registration begins in the Lombardo Student Center IM Gym at 12:00.

The activity will begin on the Hamlin Quad in front of the famous JCU Grasseli tower and then move to the Varsity Gym once the sun sets to continue all night long.

Community Fun this weekend in Cleveland’s Waterloo District

Stop on down to Cleveland’s historic Waterloo District this weekend for a spring community arts festival. Join the many art galleries and unique shoppes near East 156th Street and Waterloo Road on April 19th all day. As the evening rolls around, stop in to the free receptions from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Arts Collinwood Gallery previewing the All-City Arts Show and Vision Gallery featuring amazing deals on local artwork.

“Working” Debuts on the Carroll Campus

The John Carroll University production of “Working” the musical is now playing on the John Carroll University campus. Uncle Fred has marked Episode 20 of “Arts on the Heights” with some background on this play running April 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th at 7:30 p.m. and April 6th and 13th at 2:00 p.m.

Looking at the hard working people who are overlooked in today’s fast-paced society, Working is a must-see in John Carroll’s Kulas Auditorium. For directions to John Carroll click here.

Community Blood Drive Thursday, April 3rd!

Our community is known for its outstanding healthcare resources. The Cleveland Clinic alone is the second largest user of blood products in the country, and hospitals in Northeast Ohio need 900-1,000 units of blood every day! You can help make a difference! Every one unit of donated blood can save three lives.

The Blood Drive will take place in Ursuline’s Mullen Commuter Lounge at 2550 Lander Road in Pepper Pike. Every donor will receive a free T-shirt compliments of the American Red Cross.

Join WJCU for our biggest community fundraiser of the year, the 3rd annual Blizzard Bash benefit concert. This year we are going bigger with even more bands and an expanded venue!

Join us TONIGHT, FRIDAY NOVEMBER 30th (Doors open at 6:45) in the Marinello Little Theatre on the campus of John Carroll Univeristy in University Heights (Need Directions?) and watch the musical stylings of TOM HAREN, HOLLYWOOD SHUFFLE, THE SPEEDBUMPS, PETER NIRO and QUANTA. As always, all proceeds go straight to the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland. Tickets are just $5 or FREE with 5 canned goods.

Can’t make it to the show but still want to help out? Drop off your canned goods tonight at the Belvoir Blvd. entrance to John Carroll University and look for the WJCU sign by the entrance to the RecPlex Center. Volunteers will be standing by!

Community Trick-or-Treating Wednesday at JCU!

Bring the kids to John Carroll’s campus Wednesday October 24th for JCU’s Trick-or-Treat night through the residence halls from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This is a kid-friendly John Carroll tradition and a great way for your little ones (and big ones!) to trick-or-treat in an enclosed, fun, and safe environment. Registration starts at 6:00 p.m. in the Atrium of the Student Centre, just past the WJCU studios. (Need directions to John Carroll?).

Come see decorated residence hallways, fill up on candy from the dorm rooms, and enjoy free donuts and cider! Trick-or-Treat Night is sponsored by the JCU Residence Life Association and is sure to be a hit again this year!

Celebrating a Broadcasting Milestone

Bill Peters’ popular rock show “Metal on Metal” turned 25-years old at a packed celebration concert at the Beachland Ballroom September 15, 2007. Peters’ show first hit the WJCU airwaves back in 1982 and has grown in popularity by leaps and bounds since then.

The man of the hour was honored with a look-alike face cake to remember this true broadcasting milestone. Peters’ family was by his side at the concert the entire evening.

The packed show featured metal bands including Raven, Anvil, The Exalted Piledriver, Destructor, Manimals, Soulless, and Lick the Blade. Tune in to “Metal on Metal” Fridays on WJCU 88.7FM, 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Or listen online in our streaming section on wjcu.org.

“Metal on Metal” Celebrating 25 years of rock this Saturday!

In 1982 a DJ named Bill Peters started a rock metal show on 88.7FM. Today, 25 years later, he continues to rock.

“Metal on Metal” is one of the longest running programs in WJCU’s history and continues to draw more and more listeners every week. To celebrate this remarkable milestone in Cleveland broadcasting The Beachland Ballroom is hosting “WJCU and Metal on Metal’s 25th Anniversary Concert” this Saturday, September 15th. Doors opening at 5:00 p.m.

Don’t miss your chance to see this show packed with great metal bands featuring Raven, Anvil, The Exalted Piledriver, and Destructor with special guests Manimals, Soulless, and Lick the Blade.

Footprints For Fatima

Join WJCU today for another great cause, The Footprints for Fatima 5K run and One Mile Race/Walk. WJCU will be playing music as the race finishers run across the finish line in Don Shula Stadium. All proceeds will benefit JCU’s Fatima Food drive, which supplies hundreds of families with food during the holidays in partnership with the Fatima Family Center.

Race-day registration is $20, and includes a free T-Shirt to the first 200 entrants. More information…
