Learn more about our new management staff and show award winners!

An annual tradition here at WJCU is that at the close of every academic year, we take time to honor and recognize our volunteer staff for the outstanding quality of non-commercial radio they provide to the community year in and year out.

At the banquet we also formally introduce our director staff for the upcoming year, and the new manager of the station. John Carroll University Class of 2009 graduate Jimmy Perkins has been named the station’s new manager for a two year term, taking over from current manager Rob Duns who will return to his weather reporting on The Heights and academic programs with John Carroll University and Mississippi State University this fall.

Incoming directors to the station include Scott McMillen (Music) who is taking over after Laurie Wanninger, Mark Ehrbar (Production) replacing Andy Johnson, Howard Regal (Sports) filling in after Craig Willert, Nehemiah Jackson (Programming) who is following Mark Ryan, Meredith Garcia-Painter (Personnel) who is taking up Katy Finucane’s post, and Bob Seeholzer (Web) who is taking up the position from Rob Duns.

Director positions held by non-graduating seniors that will continue next year include Anna Schade (News), Pete Nigra (Public Affairs) and Greg Monaco (Operations).

At the awards, Beautiful Mess‘ Holly Duns took home honors as Student Broadcaster of the Year and Director of the Year and shared Best Promo of the Year with Diversified Funk’s Carole Anthony and She’s Got The Beat’s Katie Sickels. The trio collaborated on the “Ladies Night” station promo currently in rotation.

Mark Ehrbar, heard Thursday mornings was named Best New Heights DJ for Fall 2009 and newcomer Marc Nowicki was honored with the Best New Spring DJ for Spring 2010.

Friday night staple Bill Peters was voted Community Broadcaster of the Year for his work on Metal on Metal while Aldona Stempuzis was given the first Lifetime Achievement Award from WJCU for her 18 years of service as executive producer of The Lithuanian Voice. Aldona will be retiring at the end of the spring season after a career devoted to bringing Greater Cleveland a piece of Lithuanian culture every Sunday on the radio for years.

The evening also included an appearance from Jerrod Koston of the band Venomin James. Jerrod has been a true friend to WJCU and non-commercial radio in his music, and 88.7FM was honored to have him at our annual banquet along with members of his family.

Congratulations to all of this years nominees, winners and honored staffers!

Join the celebration on WJCU as Beautiful Mess celebrates its fourth year on the air at 88.7FM. Started by now WJCU and John Carroll University alum Diana Orabovic in 88.7FM’s Spring 2006 season, upon graduation she passed the reigns over to current host Holly Duns in 2008. The fun starts every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. (EST) and includes ticket give-a-ways, new music and a special phone-in hello from the original star of this popular show, Diana Orabovic.

This past year Beautiful Mess’ Holly Duns was voted as WJCU’s Student Broadcaster of the Year, and also won for best station promo in the collaborative effort with Carole Anthony of Diversified Funk and Katie Sickels of She’s Got The Beat with “Ladies Night”.
