2005 Sports Director’s Football Memo

It’s that time of year again. JCU students have returned to campus, the air will soon be getting cooler, and college football is in the air. This season the Blue Streaks start off with a bye, and open the season at home against the Flying Dutchman of Hope College (Mich.). You may recall that the Streaks lost a heartbreaker in the opener last season, and you can bet that they are looking to reverse their fortune against the Dutchman this year.

The rest of the Ohio Athletic Conference is loaded. Mount Union, Ohio Northern, and Capital are all ranked in the D3football.com Top 25 poll. There are also several “middle of the road” teams in the OAC who could play the role of spoiler. Head coach Regis Scafe is looking to guide his squad to its 19th consecutive winning season, certainly an impressive stat, but it will not come easy. Scafe will probably look for a little more consistency from the Blue Streaks who went 5-0 at home last season, but just 1-4 on the road.

As a listener you will receive what we hope you have come to expect from the WJCU Sports Department: the best possible broadcast. You will hear some familiar voices, and some new ones, but our goal - to bring you total Blue Streak coverage - remains the same. All ten football games will be broadcast over the airwaves and here at WJCU.org. I will sum up the week in Blue Streak sports on Carroll Corner, here on WJCU. The WJCU Sports Department is excited for the upcoming season, and we hope that you will come along for the ride.

Men’s 2005 NCAA Division III Basketball Playoffs Pt. 3

The Sweet 16 and Elite 8 games will be taking place at Albion Collge. The first game, JCU vs. Albion, will be on Friday, March 11, at 8:00pm. The pregame show will begin at 7:45 or 15 minutes before tip-off.

The winner advances to the Elite 8, which will be played at Albion College on Saturday, March 12 at 7:00 pm. The JCU/Ablion winner will play the Calvin/Mississippi College winner.

Albion is 25-3. John Carroll is 24-5.

JCU and Albion have played each other four times, with each side winning twice. The Blue Streaks are trying to advance to the sectional finals for the second year in a row.

Men’s 2005 NCAA Division III Basketball Playoffs Pt. 2

JCU will be playing at Wittenberg for round two of the NCAA Division III Playoffs on Saturday, March 5. The pre-game show starts at 6:45, and the tip-off will be at 7:00.

The Blue Streaks are looking to duplicate their success from last year when they traveled down to Springfield in round two.

Men’s 2005 NCAA Division III Basketball Playoffs Pt. 1

John Carroll will be hosting Bethany College (WV) in a first round Division III playoff game on Thursday night at 7:00. WJCU will broadcast the game live. The pre-game show will start at 6:45 and the tip-off will be at 7:00. Matt Jaworski, Chris Condit, Doug Phillips, and Casey Goetz will be bringing you all the action.

The winner will play Wittenberg in Springfield, OH, on Saturday night at 7:00.
