Cleveland Playhouse Move

In a few years the Cleveland Playhouse will move into two theaters in the Allen theater in Playhouse Square. Clevelanders are already going downtown for sports and theater, so the move should draw in more Westsiders and tourists. With this move there will be seven major theater venues in the downtown area! Maybe the “Comback City” has another comeback on the horizon!

Upkeep of Older Homes

Keeping historic homes well maintained and historically accurate may not always be easy, but it makes sense, and potentially dollars when its time to sell.

For over 15 years, the Cleveland Restoration Society has offered technical assistance to owners of heritage homes built “the way they just don’t build ‘em anymore.” They allso give advice to make older homes more efficient and can help owners receive low interest loans for maintence and improvements for the old and historic properties.

Working For Fair Housing

Even in modern times, housing discrimination still exists and the Heights Community Congress,the oldest fair housing group in North East Ohio, is doing it’s part to ensure there is fair housing for all. In ever changing times there are wider varieties of discrimination which they are working to alleviate.

The HCC also hosts community forums to help people interact with and learn from each other

With the new year and new administration, optimism seems to have returned to the market. A local Realtor actually had a better January 2009 than January 2008.

The last few years have served a lesson to everyone and while we not be at the bottom of the housing mess, there is hope for a busy spring.

Cleveland Heights-University Heights public library system is noticing an increase in patronage from folks looking to brush up on skills in regards to resume writing and interviewing.

The library also offers free classes throughout March and April to reflect job searching in the digital age.

Local Shops Feeling Economic Pinch

A lot of shop owners in the Heights are finding it hard to look at the books these days.

Big Fun Toy Store in Coventry has experienced one of the worst holiday shopping periods in its 18 years this past holiday season. To make up for the decrease in business, shop owners are looking for other ways to draw in the masses.
