The Outspoken Cyclist – 10/01/2011

To paraphrase John Lennon, ‘October is what happens while you’re busy riding your bicycle’. As a nod to the shorter days, cooler temperatures, and fewer opportunities to ride in the coming months, this week Diane talks with folks who can help fire your imagination and planning for next riding season.

First up is Karen Brooks, editor of Bicycle Times magazine, based in Pittsburgh. Bicycle Times is a newish member of the Dirt Rag family of publications, and it highlights the premise that you can use a bicycle for all kinds of things that don’t necessarily involve going fast or far. Karen and her team are standing digital-age conventional wisdom on its pointy little head by producing a beautiful and functional print magazine about cycling.

After a break and a bit of news, we welcome Sandy and Steve Lehman of Steve Lehman Tours to the show. Steve is a very successful Masters racer, coach, and tour leader who still holds the over-55 men’s hour record. Although his wife Sandy limits her riding to the great indoors, she and Steve share a passion for travel and adventure. Sandy’s role in the tour business is to create an equally memorable experience for the non-cyclists in the group.
